The TLC Charity Shop in Cookstown help transform children's lives in Mexico

The TLC Charity Shop at 33 Oldtown Street, Cookstown, opened on 26th April 2014. The funds generated by the shop are used to support a Drop-in Centre for street kids and young people in Mexico City.

We aim to provide a pleasant shopping environment whether you are looking for a particular item or just browsing. Our opening hours are : Tuesday to Saturday, 10am - 4.30pm.

We stock a wide range of products including clothing, furniture, household linen, books, toys, nursery items and general bric-a-brac. We have also begun to sell electrical items which are PAT tested for safety by our own qualified technician. We have a good range of Ladies wear available including jewellery, hats, handbags and footwear. Our Menswear includes a section of suits which are not on permanent display, so please ask to see them if you are interested. If an item is found to be unsuitable after purchase, we are pleased to offer an exchange if the receipt is produced.

We can deliver furniture within a 10 mile radius of the shop. There is a charge for this service.

WE WILL GLADLY ACCEPT ANY DONATIONS OF GOODS FOR SALE IN THE SHOP AND WE ARE ABLE TO COLLECT BIGGER ITEMS.

The Project:

The Drop-in Centre we support in Mexico City is called “proyecto MEFI”, (in English, the MEFI project).

MEFI stands for MISERICORDIA : Mercy

                             ESPERANZA : Hope

                             FE : Faith

                             INTEGRACION : Integration

The Drop-in centre opens Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for the street kids and young people to visit. It is managed by a qualified medical doctor. They are able to get a shower, a clean set of clothes and wash their own clothes. They also have two cooked meals provided.

Following the first meal they listen to a talk by the doctor or one of the other staff on various relevant subjects such as hygiene or nutrition. They are also taught from the Bible about God who loves them. After the second meal they do craft work and develop skills which enable them to be employable. On Thursdays, the MEFI staff cook food and take it onto the streets where they meet more young street people, who are invited to the MEFI Centre.

TLC is our umbrella organization and stands for “Transforming Lives and Communities”. Through the TLC shop in Cookstown we are helping to transform the lives and communities of disadvantaged young people in Mexico City.
