Tyrone's Foodie Queen pops into Cookstown to visit the Royal Hotel

The Foodie Queen visits the Royal Hotel – April 2017

The Royal Hotel is a little gem tucked away on Coagh Street¸ close to the town centre. The recently refurbished hotel is an ideal choice for a fab lunch if you are in town. This was my first time in the Royal and the friendly atmosphere was apparent the second I stepped through the door. Warmly greeted by Ashleigh on reception, I explained I would like some lunch and she told me that I could dine in either the dining room or the bar, I chose the bar. My attentive waiting staff (Ashley and Matthew) showed me to my table and produced two menus, the lunch menu and the grill menu. I went for the beef, onion and mushroom toastie with chips on the side from the lunch menu as I really didn’t want a huge dinner. Ashley informed me that there is an option for smaller portion sizes if required and took my order while I took in my surroundings, happily waiting on my meal.

The bar is beautifully decorated with a cosy, atmospheric feel, with regal purple seat coverings, very apt for “The Royal”. It soon started to fill up with lunch goers.

In a few short minutes my sandwich arrived, not just a sandwich but a feast!! A fully packed toasted sandwich overflowing with beef, onions, mushrooms, a side salad , coleslaw , crisps and homemade chunky chips ( nothing skinny about me J ). The beef was just perfect, melt in the mouth and succulent. So much for not wanting a huge dinner, every bit was ate.

As I was doing a review, I thought it would be rude not to include a dessert so I picked an old favourite, rhubarb crumble and custard. In lightening time reappeared with the perfect sized portion and in lightening time it was gone. The rich, creamy custard and the sharpness of the rhubarb was just heaven on a spoon,

A two course lunch was great value at £10, the quality and quantity of food on offer was fantastic. Both menus had something to suit all tastes and I would love to try an evening meal here very soon.

The Royal is a beautiful venue, ideally located and tastefully decorated. The staff go above and beyond to see to your every need and nothing is too much trouble. A great choice for family functions, private parties and also weddings, with two function rooms to choose from and a gorgeous bridal suite.

So, if you would like to feel like royalty, then The Royal Hotel is definitely for you. Book a table and experience the excellence for yourself.
