Carol Doey latest blog

Hi Everyone, I apologise for being late with my blog but we have been very busy at the Hub.  We have been in operation for one year on the 8th of April past…and never in a million years did I think we would be so successful. I have always dreamt of this place where everyone would feel they belong, a place where we could all express our creativity without judgement, a place that was totally inclusive. People, who know me well, know my passion for inclusion and know my dislike for segregation, so while I am involved with the Hub that’s how it will be. Our Volunteers are absolutely amazing…they give of their time in order to keep the Hub running smoothly… I am grateful .

An update on classes:

Guitar with Ryan:Guitar for beginners is one of the most popular classes, with Ryan McGarrity at the helm why wouldn’t it be…this class has Fathers, Mothers, Sons and Daughters all in the same class, learning together, we have guitars for people to borrow until they are sure they want to learn, these guitars were donated by some of you lovely people.  Ryan is patient, and he has that special connection that makes it easy for people to learn. We are grateful.  He also runs More Chords which is the next step after beginners…

Yoga with Inga:Yoga is a very beneficial exercise for all ages, and it has proved a very popular class. When we finish any class we ask people to fill in an evaluation form in order for us to keep our standards up, and the comments from Yoga have been amazing…Inga is quietly spoken, and has this wonderful way of making you feel good about yourself. “Igna is Very Bendy” that was one of our comments but she doesn’t expect us to be very bendy until about week three ;)

Drama with Patrick/Carol: Another amazing class…and not just because Patrick and I facilitate it, but ask the parents how their children have grown in confidence…Drama is not just about the end performance, and a lot of people think if there is no big show at the end what is the point…Let me explain, the journey from day one until the last is more important than any show…the theory behind drama and phycology is very similar. The more confident your child is, the happier they will be, and isn’t that what we all want for our children…We just had our end of term party, chocolate fountain, slush puppies, popcorn and candy floss and much more, I went home sick. The summer scheme will include drama with an end performance so get your child’s name down a.s.a.p., this definitely fills up fast.

Our weekend indoor markets:are just fabulous, first Saturday is the indoor car boot the second Saturday is the craft fair day… If you are a Student we offer one table per Saturday free, we would encourage students to practise their entrepreneurial skills before entering the big world…Call to see us anytime have a cuppa and a chat…

Traditional Nights:  An old fashioned evening, where you meet with friends, listen to brilliant music, have supper at 10pm and home tucked up at midnight….our traditional musicians are the best in the land…call down one night for the craic…

More Classes:Aware Depression Group…Meditation…Confidence Building…Massage Workshop…Children’s Creative gardening….Children’s Arts and Crafts…Creative Floral Art (Ben Beggs) Sewing Machine Classes…Crochet Classes…Over 50’s I Pad/IPhone and Laptop Classes…Dance classes for Toddlers/Primary School Kids…Renovate your Old Furniture (Lisa McCaffery) After School Club and much more…Check in with Amanda about our Hub a Dub Summer Club….we have an amazing Summer Plan…

And these are just a sample of what we offer…we (The volunteers and committee) spend a lot of our spare time organising future projects. I really want to produce one act play evenings, soup, sandwich and sketch evenings...You purchase your ticket and get to see a performance and during the break be served soup and sandwich or pie and a pint…I have started writing but once we get a full time admin and organiser then I will be free to write… I really want to be able to run classes at an even more cost effective price…I believe everyone should have access to recreational and creative experiences, at the moment we charge a minimal fee…If we get funding I  intend to reduce our costs further. Remember it’s our place your space…and The Hubbt80 is Centred around You!!

Our official opening is on the 27th and 28th of June I have no doubt we will be well supported by you…we will showcase a variety of talents/skills and entertain you with drama, dance and song…speeches will be kept to a minimum but they will be delivered by people who matters to us….and have told us how important the Hub has been to them…More information to follow on these two nights. I promise it will be two fun and relaxing evenings… So until next time, thank you for your continued support JAny questions about the classes please contact us via face book or 028 867 63398.
