Francie Quinn 3rd blog for MYCookstown. There are some things I just don't understand

How come Tayto smokey bacon crisps are 'suitable for vegetarians'? This question has been bugging me ever since I noticed that information on the back of a packet the other day while enjoying a couple of crisp sandwiches for lunch. Seemingly they are produced without inconveniencing pigs in any way. Was it ever thus or is this a recent thing? The same applies to roast chicken crisps by the way and presumably other flavours as well. Maybe you all already knew that and I am just a bit slow on the uptake? It wouldn't be the first time. I remember years ago when I was suddenly hit by the realisation that the 'Top Cat' cartoon is remarkably similar to the tv series 'Bilko'. I thought I was the first person to see the similarity only to subsequently discover that i was about 20 years behind everyone else. In any case, my crisp sandwiches were as delicious as they have ever been and it's good to know that the veggies among you can enjoy this culinary delight along with the rest of us.

Further in-depth research on my kitchen table revealed the perplexing news that, according to the label, each 100g of Heinz tomato ketchup contains 125g of tomatoes. Now I'm no mathematical expert but something there doesn't quite add up. It's reassuring to know that there are tomatoes in there but there are apparently too many. Where do the extra ones go to? Somewhere out there is there a giant host of invisible tomatoes lurking?-keep your eyes peeled. That reminds me of my favourite riddle from my radio days. Every morning we used to have a little brainteaser on the breakfast show, usually a mathematical conundrum or something similar, but one day I posed the question 'what's red and invisible'? Much head-scratching apparently ensued but loads of phone calls and texts later nobody had the correct answer so I had to put them out of their misery by revealing the answer, which was 'no tomatoes!'. It's fair to say this did not greatly endear me to those poor listeners who had devoted much thought and effort to trying to figure it out. I think I was lucky not to get run out of town for that one.

I am sure you too may have questions to which no answer appears immediately obvious. Feel free to post  them  here and we will apply our collective wisdom in an attempt to solve them. In the meantime, maybe you can help me with the following,

1) Why are round pizzas always delivered in a square box?

2) Why is there a light in the fridge but not in the freezer?

3) What should you call a male ladybird?

4) What was the best thing before sliced bread?

5) Where does the white go when snow melts?

6) If it takes a man a week to walk a fortnight, how many gears are there on a potato digger?

Good luck.
